This apartment is located in the Eixample district of Barcelona, Spain.
The project consists of a full refurbishment of the apartment, part of a traditional building block from the early twentieth century. The apartment, of about approximately 65 m2, originally had two rooms facing the façade, while the rest of the rooms were lit and ventilated via a wide inner patio. This arrangement generated a series of corridors and dark spaces that had little other function than connecting spaces.
New distribution.
The new configuration keeps one room at the façade as bedroom and creates a new open space which accommodates all the other functions: living room, dining, kitchen and a study space. The second bedroom overlooks the interior patio.
Materials.
To improve natural light and give homogeneity to the project, the whole apartment is painted in white. The floors are parquet in all rooms except the bathrooms. The new materials included, though clearly contemporary, discuss harmoniously with the old to maintain the perception of unity.
